After spending 5 years in Taiwan, I arrived back in Los Angeles and found myself no one to practice Mandarin with. I tried talking to shop owners but did not make friends. Then I found this meetup group. It had 150 members and met once a month.

Hugo, you asked about Tai Chi. It's a Meetup Group called Burbank Tai Chi, classes are tues, thurs, and fri at 6:30 pm. As constituted right now, I'd say it's a beginner's class. I need practice, so let me know if Chinese learners are going so that I'm sure to be there.

Hi Hugo -- Thanks. I look forward to attending an upcoming event. So far I've enjoyed taking Mandarin at UCLA Extension - and the textbook, Integrated Chinese, is very well-organized. The only downsides to the class are the cost (close to $800 with parking and textbooks) and the distance from my home in La Crescenta. Take care.
