I have recently purchased a set of the latest elementary school chinese text from china, it starts with first grade on up to junior high, its a good way to learn proper Chinese.... Need really fluent speakers to explain some subjects and beginners actually benefit quite a bit. Learning proper chinese is how chinese is written and spoken in formal and environments, much like english. There is a separation between street talk and proper usage of words and grammar.
well, i can make photo copies of first grade text, and we can all learn many valuable things from simple things, the math simple is beauty, so i guess it might apply to language also!
Monday is also good, we need a quiet location, and maybe a chalk board would be nice, it is always great to learn the basics of writing basic words, and good hand writing in China is considered an art..
actually, I have fd who might help us to learn better, she just graduated from university of Peking, and in China, Peking U, is the knowing for Literature majors, so I will try to bring her also depending on her availability.
lets choose a time when that is approachable and repeatable, so if everyone enjoy the session we can have a reoccurring event, one session is just not enough for the vast and expansive nature of language...
thurs at 2 works for me. also sat at 2 works for me on a recurring basis
I'm coming from PLaya Del Rey on Thursday but I'm Costa Mesa every Sat until 1 so 2 every Sat for sure works for me. I live yidiar yuan so my residence wouldnt work.
I am taking mandarin at LA city college tues/thurs evenings. Also, I work and could not make a meeting before 4pm. weekends are cool.
Saturday at 2 works for me also. I might be able to wing Tuesday or Thursday at 2. Unfortunately, I can't do evenings except Saturday evenings.
Seem like most of us can do Saturday 2 pm :) I don't know who started this post and how he/she wants to do it. I can bring books I used in China and we can start simple conversation in Mandarin :) is this Saturday good for everyone?
Sat at 2 works for me. Here's an excellent online Mandarin Learning site. I think it's FREE for Lifetime. I've got a year of college Mandarin and tried Immersion but this is great...http://www.chineseclass101.com/2010/01/04/absolute-beginn...![]()
If we have Internet at the Meetup we can all practice at many levels
Hi All,
Just a side note to Jenny's post: the site I recommended is not only for Beginners. It goes from Absolute Beginner (4 sections of 25 short lessons each) to Survival, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Great Tools, record your voice to check tones, flash cards, etc. Also, unlike my college class, it's all practical Mandarin you can use immediately and for travel to China.
I changed the date and time to Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM
Oh yes, yes, now I see the website is for all level. Thanks again, Steven.

I don't know if this Saturday too soon for our Chinese meetup or we should wait till everybody confirms, so I change time to next week. I don't want to show up alone...
next week is better for me, I've got a touch of the flu. 1 week will also give peng yo's time to try Chineseclass101.com! I'm up to Lesson 25 from Absolute Beginner 1 and it's really great to use!
next week is better for me, I have to make arrangements for saturday....Could we start next week...
I received my traditional Chinese education in Taiwan...if people learn simplified Chinese and Han Yu pinyin, then I can not teach, but practice conversation will be no problems :)
Need to confirm if we still have meetup this Saturday? :)
Btw, have anybody been to Cerritos Public Library? I like this library very much, it's huge and very nice inside. Maybe we can arrange a study meetup one day! :)
Count me in! Yan offered to teach. How many teachers are there? I hardly know anything so I will sit back if I need to. But I'm very excited about learning.
Hi Jenny,
I'm confirming for Sat at 2 at Panera Bread in Cerritos.
Thanks, Steven Leigh
How long do you guys think you will be there? I have a lunch in Glendale but would love to make this one because a recent trip to Taiwan reinforced my notion that my Chinese is not as fluent as I thought it was.
ooh no.. I am so sorry Steven and Everybody :( I just realized tomorrow is Lantern Festival and I already promised to go a month ago... :( I am sad to miss our first meeting, I really hope you guys continue next meetup and I will be there!!!
Hi Jenny and Everyone!
At tomorrows Meetup....Bring your laptops and Iphones. Got a great Online Manadarin Learning site to show you: Chineseclass101.com Steven
Jenny - I've been to the Cerritos library. I study there sometimes..it would be an amazing place to study. If anyone has a Cerritos library card, they can reserve a room for the group. If not, that's fine too. This is for future reference if people are interested. This is the website: http://menu.ci.cerritos.ca.us/
I'll see everyone at Panera Bread today at 2. =)
Hi Jenny and anyone interested. We are meeting up at 2 this Saturday, the 10th at Panera Bread again. The topic is food. We had a good meeting last time!
